Namibia’s first inclusive skatepark opened in Windhoek on 23 February 2018. In a cooperative venture involving Global Experience Münster, Global Experience Namibia, two UNESCO schools (Schillergymnasium and Primusschule) in Münster, Germany, and the aid organisation ‘skate-aid’, this unique facility has been built at the National Institute for Special Education (NISE). Skateparks are very attractive vehicles for development cooperation for a variety of reasons. They promote social and integrative skills, as well as coordination and sensory-motor skills. Unlike classical club sports, the emphasis here is on self-organisation and group cohesion. They therefore represent a very good means of selfhelp: instead of competitiveness, cooperation is encouraged and is lastingly anchored in society. On September 7, 2016, we will hold a lecture on skate and bike parks in Muelheim, Germany under the title Sports Facilities 2.0: open, free and outdoors? The Sport Service Muelheim, sport league muelheim and the Sports Federation of NRW, Germany will held this meeting on 7 September 2016.
The construction of the multifunctional skatepark started in November 2015. The project is realized with the support of Skate-Aid, SOS Children’s Village and the German Post/ DHL. An international construction team consisting of an American, a Serb and two Germans will build the skatepark in Palestine. Since this summer Bethlehem has a new paint job: AptART coordinated the paint job, the photos are by Tracey Shelton:

Ralf Maier works through the German Sport University in the DIN standards committee skate and parkour facilities. The Working Committee is responsible for the standardization of skate facilities. The product standards apply to installations for users of inline skates, roller skates, skateboards or similar roller sports equipment and BMX bicycles. The international IAKS Congress in Cologne will be from 27th – 30th October 2015. Dipl.-Ing. Ralf Maier participates this year to give a lecture on “Urban Spaces of Movement”. There is also a seminar on the topic: “Urban space for skate and bike activities”.

From the 02nd-10th of octobre 2015 „the international festival for urban explorations – urbanize!“, will held again in Vienna, Austria. On the festival ground are refugees housed as well. That’s why we will build a “Skatepark in a box” together with and for the refugees. „Skatepark in a box“ is our latest idea as an urban module for a personal skatepark construction. Supported by Skate-Aid there will be Skateboard workshops as well.
