Skatepark SOS Children’s Village Bethlehem, Palestine

Ralf Maier participated in the “Archmarathon Awards” in Milano, Italy. The project Skatepark Bethlehem was nominated in the category “Urban Design & Public Spaces”. An international audience was able to watch the presentation. See also: archmarathon.

The construction of the multifunctional skatepark started in November 2015. The project is realized with the support of Skate-Aid, SOS Children’s Village and the German Post/ DHL. An international construction team consisting of an American, a Serb and two Germans will build the skatepark in Palestine.

The park was built in two stages, first the skate pool and second the flow area. The park is located on the outskirts of the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School close to the historical town of Shepherd’s Field in the West Bank.

The children have now the opportunity to let off steam in a sporty way and strengthen their sense of solidarity with others. In addition, the young people have supported the construction. This not only promotes their industrial arts, but promotes the positive relationship with the park.

On June 16, 2014 Ralf Maier went along with Max Henninger of Skate-Aid to Bethlehem to prepare the construction of skatepark. The skatepark was officially opened on 16 March 2016th
